今回も少し古いカトレアを紹介いたします。このPot.Vallespin ‘Suwada’は、1971年に登録された品種で、親はラベンダー系カトレアの代表とも言えるBlc.Memoria CrispinRosalesとハーバート ヘイガー氏がバレマー・ガーデンにいたときに作出したソフロ系の銘花であるSlc.Vallezacです。勝手に作出者の意図を推察すると、Slc.Lindores（Slc. Anzac x Lc. Ishtar (01/12/1943))の進化バージョンを狙ったのではないでしょうか。
Pot.Vallespin was registered in 1971. Parents are famous Blc.Memoria Crispin Rosales and Slc. Vallezac which was created by very famous breeder; the late Mr.Harbert Hager. As my opinion, the creator of Pot.Vallespin might pursue the evolutional version of Slc.Lindores(Slc. Anzac xLc. Ishtar (01/12/1943)).
その観点からすると、このPot.Vallespin ‘Suwada’は、さほど濃色ではありません。しかしながら何故か非常に人の目を引きつける花全体としての気品があります。最新のラベンダーカトレアの銘花として、有名な須和田農園さんで作出されたPot. Twenty First Century（Pot.Memoria Ichie Ejiri(Bc.Pastoral x Pot.Vallespin) x Lc.Drumbeat）がありますが、Pot. Twenty First Centuryは、Pot.Vallespin ‘Suwada’の孫にあたります。Pot. Vallespin ‘Suwada’の気品が引き継がれていると思うのは、私だけでしょうか。皆様のコメントをお待ちしております。
From the stand point of creating intense color flower, Pot.Vallespin’Suwada’ has not this characteristics. However this flower has overall elegance which attracts everyone. Recent very famous lavender cattleya which is created by Suwada Orchid Nursery ; Pot. Twenty First Century（Pot.Memoria Ichie Ejiri(Bc.Pastoral x Pot.Vallespin) x Lc.Drumbeat）is the grandchild of Pot.Vallespin ‘Suwada’. Is it only my opinion that the elegance of Pot.Vallespin ‘Suwada’ is being taken over to Pot.Twenty First Century? We would be pleased if you would give us your opinion.
